To measure SEL in Rice County children, we hope to use the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA mini). This award-winning behavior rating scale assess skills related to social-emotional competence, resilience, and academic success. It is designed to be completed by parents, teachers, and after school staff. Administering the measure takes less than two minutes.
The DESSA’s strength-based measures comprise 8 scales, which fit into CASEL’s five core competencies. The DESSA scales are in purple in the image on the right.
